Churchill Downs Racetrack said that the Kentucky Derby "will be held with spectators after consulting with Gov. Andy Beshear and state health officials," according to Marty Finley of LOUISVILLE BUSINESS FIRST. Churchill Downs "will implement a series of safety measures and restrictions in the interest of public health." The track "did not disclose how many spectators could be accommodated for the Derby." Planned restrictions include:

  • Venue capacity reductions "will be made to limit crowd density, including general admission, outdoor reserved seating, premium dining and suites."
  • General admission tickets "will be limited to a specified number and will only grant access to the infield."
  • Credentials for employees, media and guests "will be reduced."
  • Changes "will be made in venue operations to limit person-to-person touch points."

Churchill Downs also has "revisited its fan code of conduct to encourage guests to wear masks on the property unless seated in a reserved area or venue" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 6/25).
