DAZN Acquires Bundesliga Soccer Streaming Rights in Germany

DAZN has signed a new media rights deal to livestream Bundesliga matches in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The deal gives DAZN exclusive rights to 106 soccer matches per season. Sky bought the league’s domestic broadcast rights, and will televise 200 games each year. These deals will start with the 2021-22 season and run through 2024-25.

All Friday and Sunday Bundesliga matches will now be exclusively broadcast by DAZN in the three German-speaking countries. Highlights from Bundesliga matches will also be shown on DAZN, which launched in Germany in 2016.

“This is a watershed moment in the growth and maturity of sport streaming services and the logical next step as we continue to invest in our most mature market and the future of sport,” said Simon Denyer, DAZN Group CEO, in an announcement.

The Bundesliga is the first major European soccer competition to sell its domestic broadcast rights since the outbreak of coronavirus. While financial terms of the Bundesliga’s new deals with DAZN and Sky have not been announced, the total is believed to be slightly less than the $5.1 billion that broadcasters are currently paying the Bundesliga, according to the New York Times.
