K League Soccer Players Will Feature on Blockchain Fantasy Platform Sorare

South Korea’s K League has signed a licensing agreement with fantasy soccer platform Sorare. Users will now be able to collect digital cards of all K League players and use them to compete in fantasy competitions.

The K League is the first Asian sports league to join Sorare. The company’s platform has already created crypto collectibles for more than 40 soccer clubs, including Italy’s Juventus, Spain’s Atletico Madrid, and Germany’s Schalke 04. Sorare’s marketplace allows users to buy and sell their cards, and use them to build lineups in weekly fantasy contests.

“This agreement is a key step in our vision to create a global fantasy soccer game,” Nicolas Julia, CEO at Sorare, said in a press release.

Sorare creates one unique card, 10 super rare cards, and 100 rare cards for every player in every season. Those cards are authenticated via the Ethereum blockchain, and they can be bought and sold using the Ether cryptocurrency. Card auctions on Sorare can climb as high as 59 Ethers ($13,500). In addition to a player’s real-life performance, Sorare’s fantasy scoring is also based on the rarity value associated with each card.
