A's Reverse Course On Decision To Furlough Amateur Scouts Post-Draft

The A's have reversed course on their plan to furlough amateur scouts after the MLB Draft, with GM David Forst saying that some area scouts were "never furloughed, and the rest are scheduled to return earlier than previously announced," according to Scott Bair of NBC SPORTS BAY AREA. The "well-documented cost-cutting move" had "proved wildly unpopular within the baseball community and among fans at large." Forst on the team's plans said, "It was highly publicized that a lot of our scouts were scheduled to be furloughed after the draft. With MLB lifting the ban on in-person scouting, we were about to work with [A's Managing Partner John Fisher] and create a schedule for all amateur scouts to come back to work." Blair noted Fisher recently "reversed another unpopular decision to stop paying A's minor league players weekly stipends" (NBCSPORTSBAYAREA.com, 6/17).
