Yankees Must Unseal MLB Letter Allegedly Detailing Sign Stealing

A lawsuit filed by DraftKings user Kristopher Olson against MLB, the Houston Astros and the Boston Red Sox might lead to the release of a 2017 letter from the league to the New York Yankees that allegedly includes details of a Yankees’ sign-stealing scheme. On Friday, Judge Jed Rakoff ruled in the Southern District of New York that the letter should be unsealed on June 19.

According to The Athletic, although the Yankees are not a party to the original suit, they are expected to appeal the ruling before the letter is released. The team claims that the letter would cause “significant reputational injury,” and that it covers activities before MLB updated its sign-stealing rules in 2017.
