HitTrax Challenges Players to Compete Online From Batting Cages

Baseball and softball hit tracking company HitTrax is planning to run an online tournament from facilities that have its tracking cameras installed. The competition will be open to players in minor league baseball, professional softball, plus those with Olympic experience.

The HitTrax Open will be held on the weekends of July 18-19 and July 25-26. Players will compete head-to-head to win prizes from a $20,000 pool, and the contest will be streamed on HitTrax.com.

“We’re pretty excited about this as we’re building the esports side of the business and have enhanced our capabilities as a result of the pandemic. We are also eager to assist the players that have lost their jobs,” said Mike Donfrancesco, HitTrax founder and CEO.

HitTrax uses computer vision to calculate metrics, such as a ball’s launch angle, exit velocity and projected distance, from cameras installed in batting cages. For pitchers, HitTrax can calculate pitch velocity and strike percentage.
