Media Notes

The NATIONAL POST’s Dan Barnes noted Chris Cuthbert on Friday joined Sportsnet’s NHL broadcast team, “creating a buzz over there and a hole in TSN’s coverage” of the CFL. TSN “suddenly needs a lead play-by-play caller for their marquee property,” but the net has “built some depth at the position.” The “clock was ticking” on Cuthbert’s ability to “return to his roots as a hockey announcer.” He said, “During the pandemic you start reassessing life. I’m in my 60s and there are six more years of the hockey deal (on Sportsnet)” (NATIONAL POST, 6/6).

BIG PAYDAY IN TOUGH TIMES: In N.Y., Phil Mushnick noted CBS will pay NFL analyst Tony Romo $17M annually for "weekly, seasonal work" while parent company ViacomCBS last month "began layoffs of 450 employees from all parts of the company." Mushnick wondered how many jobs CBS would have saved "had it drawn the line" at $10M per year in Romo's latest negotiations (N.Y. POST, 6/7).
