Barclays Center Serving As Brooklyn's Hub For Peaceful Protests

Barclays Center has remained largely untouched by protesters and rioters over the past weekGETTY IMAGES

Barclays Center for the seventh time in as many days was "crowded Sunday," as the arena has become Brooklyn's "epicenter for peaceful protests in the aftermath of the death of George Floyd," according to Kristian Winfield of the N.Y. DAILY NEWS. Barclays Center since its inception has "become a Brooklyn landmark," so despite no games being played nor the doors even being open at present, the crowd gathers "outside of the arena, and it’s standing room only." The facility has remained "largely untouched by protestors and rioters." Nets Owner Joe Tsai "empathizes" with those who gather, and "so long as it’s peaceful, he is a champion" for them. Tsai in a statement said, "We have said that we will use the voice and platform of the Nets, [WNBA N.Y.] Liberty and Barclays Center to facilitate empathy and dialogue" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 6/8).
