Padres Utilizing Petco Park For Unique Drive-In Events This weekend

The parking lot at Petco Park will have three viewing areas with separate screenspadres

Petco Park is set for a busy weekend as the Padres' events team has coordinated several marquee drive-in events that will take place in the Lexus Premier parking lot: three high school graduations, two showings of "Anchorman" and the first concert in California since March shutdown orders. The Padres sought to find special events for the city that would be both fun and safe while adhering to social distancing guidelines. They worked closely with county officials to set up high school graduations -- two Friday, one Saturday -- that will be similar to drive-in movies. Cars will park in the parking lot. Students will safely be able to walk up to the stage and receive their diploma one at a time. There will be a large stage and a video screen complete with full sound and production. The Padres worked closely with Paramount Pictures on the two showings of "Anchorman" on Saturday. All of the proceeds will go to the nonprofit Feeding San Diego. The parking lot will have three viewing areas with separate screens. Audio will be available via an FM signal.

LOUD NOISES: The Padres collaborated with Westward Entertainment and Local Media San Diego to put together the two Sunday concerts. Feed the Need Drive-in Concerts, presented by Baker Electric Home Energy, will include sunset performances by the band Switchfoot and singer Hirie (acoustic), which sold out within minutes, and a separate noon show headlined by B-Side Players with SM Familia and Los Sleepwalkers. Net proceeds will go to Feeding San Diego. Both shows will feature full stage and sound production, and multiple video screens so all concert-goers can enjoy the performances while inside their car. Attendees will stay inside their vehicles during the performances, staff and crew will be outfitted in PPE gear, and proper sanitation protocols will be implemented. Petco Park Events VP Jaclyn Lash told THE DAILY: "When we built Petco Park, we promised to be more than just a ballpark. It's been very important that we program the ballpark 365 days a year if possible with all kinds of things. We're thrilled we're able to find a way to continue to provide safe events for the city of San Diego at Petco Park even during this time. And to be able to give net proceeds to Feeding San Diego is a great privilege."
