NFL's Top Doctor Optimistic, Says League On Track For This Fall

NFL Chief Medical Officer Dr. Allen Sills said he is "optimistic about us being back and playing football this fall" if the league stays on its current course. Appearing on "The Adam Schefter Podcast," Sills said, “I still do believe we're on track, and I think we’re in a good place. None of us have a crystal ball, and we have to acknowledge that there are some unique features to this virus that we can’t predict." The NFL wants to have an "approach of walk, then jog, then run," and it is currently "very much in the walk phase, which is slowly moving forward to reopen our business.” There are "certainly a lot of activities that teams do that don’t involve getting in a huddle or getting across a line of scrimmage from each other, and those are the places that you start.” The NFL is focused on "risk mitigation, not elimination." Sills: "We know that we are not going to be able to make the risk zero. We expect that there will be new positive cases that will crop up over the course of a season" ("The Adam Schefter Podcast," ESPN.com, 6/2).
