NCAA President Mark Emmert Was Paid Over $2.7M In FY '18

Emmert's overall compensation for '18 dropped from the amount reported for '17, which was nearly $3.9MGETTY IMAGES

NCAA President Mark Emmert was "credited with just over" $2.7M in total compensation during FY '18, according to the association's federal tax return cited by Steve Berkowitz of USA TODAY. The amount includes a little more than $2.3M in base salary, a $200,000 increase over the base amount reported for him for the '17 calendar year. A memo sent to the membership in March showed that Emmert and members of the NCAA's senior management team are "taking 20% pay cuts and the association's vice presidents are taking 10% pay cuts due to financial pressure the NCAA is facing from the coronavirus pandemic." Emmert's overall compensation for '18 dropped from the amount reported for '17, which was nearly $3.9M and "included a deferred payment of just over" $1.4M. For the '18 calendar year, one other NCAA exec was credited with more than $1M in total compensation: COO Donald Remy. Eight others were "credited with more than $500,000" (USA TODAY, 6/3).
