Bullets Legend, Former Wizards GM Wes Unseld Passes Away At 74

WES UNSELD, the “most important figure” in the history of the Wizards franchise, died this morning at 74 due to complications from pneumonia, according to Dave Sheinin of the WASHINGTON POST. Unseld played his entire 13-year HOF career with the then-Bullets, then “served the franchise for 23 more years as an executive, broadcaster, head coach and general manager.” Unseld served as Wizards GM from ’96-’03 (WASHINGTON POST, 6/2). Unseld became “so synonymous with pro basketball in the nation's capital that, after his retirement, a Washington Post editorial stated: ‘The Bullets cannot be the Bullets without Mr. Unseld’” (Louisville COURIER-JOURNAL, 6/2).
