UK Tennis Plans Restart With ‘Battle of the Brits’ Charity Event

Former world No. 1 tennis player Andy Murray is planning to play in a men’s charity tournament in London at the end of this month. The “Battle of the Brits” will be held without fans at the U.K.’s National Tennis Center and will stream on Amazon Prime Video in the U.K. It will also be broadcast on Tennis Channel in the U.S. and livestreamed in Austria, Germany and Switzerland via the Tennis Channel’s new OTT platform. Eurosport will stream the event to the rest of Europe.

Murray considered retirement last year, following repeated injury, and has not played so far in 2020. He will feature alongside his brother, Jamie, and the two players who held the British No.1 last year, Dan Evans and Kyle Edmund.

Amazon Prime Video has acquired the rights in the U.K. and Ireland to livestream the tournament. The tech giant has previously signed deals to stream the ATP and WTA tours (although both circuits are currently suspended), and the U.S. Open for Prime Video subscribers located in the U.K. and Ireland.

Amazon also streams Premier League soccer matches in the U.K, while the company recently announced a three-year extension with the NFL to continue streaming 11 Thursday Night Football games per season for Prime Video subscribers across the world. Amazon also struck a deal with the YES Network to stream select New York Yankees games. If an MLB season is played this year, Prime Video will only offer those games to subscribers based in the New York broadcast region.
