Team Tennis Tournaments Aim to Fill Gap in ATP and WTA Seasons

ATP or WTA tournaments have been suspended since March. In their absence, team tennis competitions set for South Carolina in late June and West Virginia in mid July are pulling in major stars.

The Credit One Bank Invitational will run June 23–28 in Charleston and feature 16 women’s players, including the 2019 U.S. Open champion Bianca Andreescu, 2020 Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin, 2017 U.S. Open champion Sloane Stephens and 2012 and 2013 Australian Open champion Victoria Azarenka. Players will compete in singles and doubles matches with no fans present.

World TeamTennis will run its three-week season at The Greenbrier resort starting July 12. Teams will represent nine U.S. cities, with players competing in singles, doubles and mixed doubles all within a single match. The WTT roster also will include Kenin and Stephens, plus four-time Grand Slam winner Kim Clijsters and the Bryan Brothers. The WTT also hopes to allow in up to 500 fans.
