Sources: Pistons To Begin Search For New GM This Week

The Pistons new GM will report to Stefanski, who will continue to lead the front officeNBAE/GETTY IMAGES

Pistons Senior Advisor Ed Stefanski and Vice Chair Arn Tellem will "begin the process of searching" for a GM this week, according to sources cited by Omari Sankofa II of the DETROIT FREE PRESS. The GM will "report to Stefanski, who will continue to lead the front office." The Pistons have "put together a broad list of candidates to consider for the job and will begin contacting teams this week to ask permission for interviews." As of now, there is "no time frame on when the position will be filled." A source "didn't rule out the possibility of an internal promotion for the job." Assistant GM Malik Rose was hired in '18, and Associate GM Pat Garrity has held the role since '16. The team is "refraining from defining what responsibilities" the GM will have, as it "largely depends on who is hired." The decision to fill the GM position "comes a few months after the organization took deliberate steps toward undergoing a full rebuild." As such, the "timing is now right" and the GM will have a "major role in dictating the future of the team" (DETROIT FREE PRESS, 5/27).
