Sources: Knicks Hire Longtime Jazz Exec Walt Perrin As Assistant GM

The Knicks retained Scott Perry as GM for another year but are "reshuffling the deck below him," hiring Jazz VP/Player Personnel Walt Perrin as Assistant GM, according to sources cited by Stefan Bondy of the N.Y. DAILY NEWS. Perrin has been with the Jazz organization for 18 years. The Knicks also named Cavaliers Senior Dir of Basketball Operations Brock Aller Chief Strategist. Perry had a one-year option picked up on his contract but it is "unclear whether the other remaining executives -- including those brought in by Perry" -- will "survive the reshuffling" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 5/19). In N.Y., Marc Berman notes the Assistant GM title was previously held by Gerald Madkins, whose future with the organization now is "in danger." Madkins’ contract "expires in August" (N.Y. POST, 5/19). In New Jersey, Chris Iseman notes Perrin and Perry have "worked together in the past," when Perrin was Pistons Dir of College Scouting and Perry joined the team's front office in '00. Perrin left in '01 for the Jazz (Bergen RECORD, 5/19).
