NASCAR To Have Healthcare Workers Serve As Grand Marshals

NASCAR is having 40 “doctors, nurses, EMTs and other critical-care workers fighting the coronavirus pandemic” serve as “virtual grand marshals” for Sunday’s The Real Heroes 400 at Darlington, its first live race in more than two months, according to T.L. Stanley of ADWEEK. Viewers watching the race on Fox “will be able to see a mosaic of those everyday heroes kicking off the race with the iconic phrase, ‘Drivers, start your engines!’” All drivers “will replace their own names on the driver-side windows of their cars with the names of individual healthcare workers.” The logo for “The Real Heroes Project,” which NASCAR is participating in along with many other sports properties, also will appear on the “side panel of each vehicle.” NASCAR worked with Fox and local affiliates “to identify healthcare workers” to honor (ADWEEK.com, 5/14).
