MLB Owners Plan to Start 2020 Season in July

Major League Baseball will present a proposal to the MLBPA today for starting the 2020 season. According to the AP, spring training could begin again a month from now, with Opening Day scheduled in early July. Pending government approval, teams would play in their own ballparks, but with no fans. The Toronto Blue Jays may relocate to their regular spring training site in Dunedin, Fla.

Instead of a normal 162-game season, teams would play 82 games. Teams would play in-division opponents plus those in their geographical area (East, Central and West) only. And the number of wild cards in each league would be doubled for the playoffs. Owners are suggesting a 50-50 revenue split with players.
