Mariners Players Taking On Fans In Latest Video Game Tourney

Mariners players are being challenged this week by a field of 16 fans in a virtual "MLB The Show 20" competition in what is believed to be the only players vs. fans tournament. First-round play concludes tomorrow (it began Tuesday), with four games of "MLB The Show 20" each day on PS4. Round two will take place next week. The Mariners will make a $5,000 donation through the team’s nonprofit foundation, MarinersCare, to COVID-19 relief efforts in the name of the winner. If a fan is crowned champion, he or she will receive front row tickets to a future Mariners' game and the opportunity to throw out a first pitch. Viewers can follow along at Mariners.com/Showdown for schedules, results and highlights from the competition, and view the livestreams at Twitch.tv/Mariners. The bracket of Mariners players and fan matchups was announced during a special selection show hosted by Mariners broadcaster Dave Sims. Mariners 2B Dee Gordon told the Seattle Times, “Any chance we get to interact with the fans is awesome. But hopefully they don’t have too much fun when they’re playing me."
