USTA Considers Relocating 2020 U.S. Open to Indian Wells

The United States Tennis Association is still planning to host the U.S. Open in late August and early September at Flushing Meadows in Queens, but it has been thinking up contingency plans in case the coronavirus makes that impossible. USTA executive director Michael Dowse told Inside Tennis that the event could get pushed back as far as November or switch coasts entirely, temporarily moving to Indian Wells, Calif. The 2020 BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells was one of the first sports tournaments to be canceled because of the pandemic on March 9.
