Devils Offering Ticket Holders Full Refunds Or Option To Donate

The Devils have "given fans options" if they have tickets to postponed games, ranging from "full refunds to ticket donations for front-line workers in the COVID-19 pandemic," according to Greg Wyshynski of ESPN.com. The team this week "offered several options to fans holding tickets to the Devils' postponed seven home games at Prudential Center." They included "rolling their season-ticket balance into tickets for next season, and choosing one from the following incentives: parking for 10 home games, $100 toward the Devils Den Team Store, $150 in concession credit, an autographed stick or an upgrade to two all-inclusive club seats for a home game." Partial season-ticket holders and individual game ticket holders "were told that by transferring their '2019-20 postponed game balance' into a Devils ticket account credit, they could earn a 'bonus game' that includes four lower-level seats" to a '20-21 game. If fans "just want to get their money back for the postponed games, the Devils are allowing them to ask for refunds even though games aren't formally canceled." The Devils also have "given fans a way to donate their tickets" (ESPN.com, 5/4).

AROUND SPORTS: Teams have begun announcing plans for their ticket-refund policies. Below is a sampling:

  • The NFL Giants sent a letter to season-ticket holders "notifying them that the next payments in their respective plans were being deferred until July 1, 2020 given the 'current landscape' and economic fallout from the coronavirus pandemic." This marks the "second time the Giants have pushed back deadlines for payments" (Bergen RECORD, 5/5).
  • Cavaliers ticket holders, if they do not want to hold onto their tickets in hopes the remaining five home games are rescheduled, can "apply the amount currently on the account, plus a 10% credit, toward any future games in the 2020-21 season." They also can receive a full refund (Cleveland PLAIN DEALER, 5/5).
  • Pelicans season-ticket holders now "have the option of receiving a refund for the nine home games postponed because of the coronavirus pandemic." The team told season-ticket holders that they "could get their money back or receive credit toward next season for games" the Pelicans were "supposed to host between March 16 and April 13" (NOLA.com, 5/4).
  • Nashville SC CEO Ian Ayre wrote to season-ticket holders to ensure them their "investments for any canceled matches or matches played without fans at Nissan Stadium this season will be applied as future credit to 2021 season ticket memberships." The club is "willing to accommodate individual requests for refunds" (Nashville TENNESSEAN, 5/5).
  • Atlanta United season-ticket holders "will receive a credit" to be "applied to the memberships for the 2021 season" for matches played this season without fans or canceled altogether (ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION, 5/5).
