NWSL Chicago Red Stars Owner Arnim Whisler said the club "still [is] fully staffed" and has "enough cash reserves to last through May," according to Jeremy Mikula of the CHICAGO TRIBUNE. Whisler also commended the club's biggest sponsors -- Wintrust, Magellan, Mazda of Orland Park and Jet's Pizza -- who have "stood shoulder to shoulder with us" during the pandemic. The Red Stars have kept in touch with fans during the shutdown, including last Saturday hosting in conjunction with supporters section Chicago Local 134 and Revolution Brewing a "virtual tailgate featuring several players on what was supposed to be the home opener at SeatGeek Stadium." The Red Stars also have offered fans "activities such as coloring sheets, crosswords, playlists, home-fitness instruction from the coaching staff, after-hours games for adults and 'Story With Rory,' in which coach Rory Dames reads bedtime stories" (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 4/30).
FRESH LOOK: In Chicago, Annie Costabile notes the Red Stars on Thursday night revealed their new jersey virtually on a Zoom video conference. The front of the jersey features the Chicago flag "made up of city neighborhoods, and on the back is Chicago’s skyline designed the same way." The neighborhoods "represent every fan that makes up the Red Stars' base." The jerseys currently do not have sponsor Magellan's name "on the front," though it "still will be displayed on the back" (CHICAGO SUN-TIMES, 5/1).
