Pistons, Nets Owners Team Up To Help Detroit Fight Virus

Pistons Owner Tom Gores "strengthened his commitment to helping the City of Detroit in the continuing fight against COVID-19" by partnering with Nets Owner Joe Tsai to "deliver 350,000 KN95 masks and 100,000 medical goggles, which will be distributed to testing centers, homeless shelters and front-line workers in the city’s police and transportation departments" (DETROIT NEWS, 5/1). 

ORGANIZATIONS HELPING COMMUNITIES: The Canucks for Kids Fund announced a gift of $500,000 to support beneficiaries providing critical community needs during the COVID-19 pandemic (Canucks)....On Thursday, Kroenke Sports Charities delivered 130 King Soopers gift cards and meals to firefighters and public safety employees through the Denver Fire Department Foundation (KSE).

NFL, MLB PLAYER INITIATIVES: RB Saquon Barkley and the Giants last week "gave the community a virtual experience they won’t forget as part of SAP’s 'Take Your Child to Work Day.'" Barkley "shared workout tips for fans on video" and Giants Senior VP & CCO Pete Guelli "surprised two frontline healthcare workers with an exclusive Giants gameday package" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 5/1).....Lions WR Marvin Jones and his wife, Jazmyn, on Thursday provided 1,000 hot meals through food trucks and donated 250 "treats from their Nothing Bundt Cakes franchise" in Troy, Mich. (MLIVE.com, 4/29)....Padres P Drew Pomeranz "donated $7,500, a sum matched by the Padres Foundation, to feed UC San Diego Health workers every Friday for a month" (SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, 5/1).
