FC Barcelona To Sell Camp Nou Naming Rights For Virus Funding

LaLiga club FC Barcelona for the first time will “sell the title rights to its storied stadium for one year in an effort to raise money for the fight against the coronavirus,” according to Joseph Wilson of the AP. The club will “donate the entire fee raised by selling the title rights to the Camp Nou to fighting the global pandemic.” The stadium, which has “never had a sponsor since it opened” in ’57, is Europe’s biggest soccer venue with more than 99,000 seats. Barcelona had planned to “wait to sell the stadium's title rights for the first time” for the ‘23-24 season with a 25-year deal valued at US$326M. Barcelona VP Jordi Cardoner “would not give any estimate on how much the foundation hopes to earn from this ‘one-shot’ sale” (AP, 4/21). See tonight’s issue of SBD Global for more.
