Kris Versteeg this week retired following an 11-year NHL career, and he indicated his next step will include stepping in front of the camera, according to Wes Gilbertson of the CALGARY HERALD. Versteeg said, "I'm probably going to go into broadcasting, with Sportsnet. ... Broadcasting gives me a schedule where I can stay involved in the game -- I love hockey, I love watching hockey" (CALGARY HERALD, 4/15). THE HOCKEY NEWS' Ken Campbell wrote Versteeg will "almost certainly be great" at broadcasting. Versteeg has had a career in TV "waiting for him almost from the time he became a full-time NHLer" in '08. Campbell: "Sportsnet probably has a future star on its hands depending on how far Versteeg actually wants to take this" (THEHOCKEYNEWS.com, 4/15). SPORTSNET's Elliotte Friedman wrote Versteeg is "going to be in media for as long as he wants to be" (SPORTSNET.ca, 4/15).
