Jay Glazer Under Fire For Handling Of NFLer's Coronavirus Diagnosis

Glazer teased the news of the positive diagnosis almost a full day before reporting itFOX SPORTS

Fox' Jay Glazer last night reported Rams C Brian Allen was the first NFL player known to test positive for coronavirus, but the "way he delivered" the news "could be classified as a little tone-deaf," according to Logan Mullen of NESN.com. Glazer on Tuesday night went on Fox Sports Radio and said that he "had 'big news' he was preparing to break" the next day on "Fox Football Now." Glazer got "absolutely flamed on Twitter after breaking it because of the way he handled the whole process and kept people waiting for a day." Glazer is a "good reporter, and the Allen news is a worthwhile story," but this "whole thing could have been executed much better." Allen is "doing well" in his recovery (NESN.com, 4/16). In N.Y., Adrian Covert writes the Allen news is an "absolutely worthy story to report." But at this stage of the pandemic, such news "hardly requires the hypeman performance that Glazer put on for the 24 hours leading up to this revelation, and it's hard to imagine this as anything but a self-serving publicity stunt." The "extremely vocal reaction from throngs of NFL fans who feel they've been duped is probably not the one he had hoped for" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 4/16). SPORTING NEWS' Jordan Heck writes Glazer "caught the ire of many, who felt teasing a coronavirus diagnosis for a full day wasn't a respectable thing to do" (SPORTINGNEWS.com, 4/16).
