Cuban Glad To Serve On Trump Council Despite Past Criticism

Cuban recently floated the idea of launching his own third-party run for the presidencyGETTY IMAGES

Mavericks Owner Mark Cuban has been an outspoken critic of President Trump during his time in office, but Cuban yesterday said he was “here to help” Trump after he was put on the White House's sports panel as part of the "Opening The Country" council. Cuban appeared on Fox Business before last night's initial meeting and said, "Whatever I can do as an American citizen, I’m all in. This is a unique time, and I give the president credit for asking for help. He called my name, and I’m ready to step up to the plate and help.” Cuban recently floated the idea of potentially launching his own third-party run for the presidency, but suggested that was no factor in joining the panel (“Varney & Co.,” Fox Business, 4/15).

SURPRISE, SURPRISE: NBCNEWS.com’s Ruhle, Alba, Alexander & Byers reported while the people on Trump’s various councils -- which extend to many different industries outside of just sports -- largely are “happy to participate, the vast majority ... were not informed that they would be named by the president and not told in advance what their roles might be.” Others, like Cuban, indicated that they “were told about the group by phone on Tuesday, just hours before the president spoke” (NBCNEWS.com, 4/15). In N.Y., Karni, Kelly & Gelles report some of those who had “agreed to help said they received little information on what, exactly, they were signing up for.” Meanwhile, others who were “willing to connect with the White House could not participate in hastily organized conference calls on Wednesday because of scheduling conflicts and technical difficulties” (N.Y. TIMES, 4/16).
