UGA Plans To Conduct "Virtual G-Day" Featuring Coach Kirby Smart

The Univ. of Georgia "plans to conduct a 'Virtual G-Day' on Saturday" featuring football coach Kirby Smart commenting on a replay of a '19 matchup against Notre Dame, according to Chip Towers of the ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION. The annual G-Day instrasquad game originally was to be played at 2:00pm ET on Saturday and "broadcast on the SEC Network." UGA Senior Associate AD/External Operations Alan Thomas said that the network "had planned to simply replay Georgia's 2019 G-Day game during that time slot." However, UGA pitched the idea of replaying the '19 Notre Dame game and the net "liked it much better." Smart is going to provide commentary "via his Twitter account." The radio broadcast team of Scott Howard, Eric Zeier and Chuck Dowdle also will "provide additional commentary via Facebook Live on UGA athletics' page." Like a lot of businesses, UGA is "searching for ways to generate content and fulfill sponsorship agreements." The school is "not able to stream games on its own website because they're owned by the networks." Thomas said, "Our digital team has been trying to come up with a content plan while also looking at how we're managing our sponsorship inventory. This is our first attempt at doing something like this" (ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION, 4/14).

VIDEO GAMES: In Lincoln, Parker Gabriel noted the Univ. of Nebraska yesterday said that it "will be streaming a video game simulation of the Spring Game on its social media channels, featuring rosters made up of program legends." The simulation also will have "radio broadcast worked into it and is set to be live-streamed" at 1:00pm CT Saturday on Facebook, Twitter and Twitch (Lincoln JOURNAL-STAR, 4/13).
