Missouri Among Schools With ADs, Coaches Taking Pay Cuts

The Univ. of Missouri will "institute salary cuts and other cost-cutting measures" due to the ongoing pandemic, and those salary cuts also "could be coming to Mizzou athletics," according to Dave Matter of the ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH. MU AD Jim Sterk is "among the cabinet members expected to take a pay cut." On Monday, MU Deputy AD/Communications Nick Joos confirmed that 20 people in the athletics department "received an email from university leadership asking them to participate in the salary cut plan." Matter notes those individuals have until next Tuesday to "decide if they'll accept the cuts." Joos "did not disclose who were among the 20 people." The MU athletics department "includes several of the university's highest-paid employees" (ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH, 4/15).

OREGON STATE: In Portland, John Canzano reports Oregon State AD Scott Barnes, football coach Jonathan Smith and men's basketball coach Wayne Tinkle are "taking pay cuts" and will "donate a portion of their salaries back to the athletic department." All three will "donate 7% of their salary over the next year to 'Our Beaver Nation,' a part of the OSU Foundation." A source said that those donations are designed to "help mitigate revenue shortfalls caused by the coronavirus pandemic." Additionally, an email signed by Barnes said that athletic execs, other select staff members and all other head coaches at OSU will “donate up to 5% of their annual salary based on salary in the next year.” Barnes also "announced a hiring freeze in the athletic department" (Portland OREGONIAN, 4/15).

WAKE FOREST: In Winston-Salem, John Dell reports Wake Forest football coach Dave Clawson is "donating 10% of his salary to help Wake Forest during the COVID-19 pandemic," joining the Wake Forest cabinet and academic deans at the school who also are "taking 10% pay cuts" during the crisis, including AD John Currie (WINSTON-SALEM JOURNAL, 4/15).
