NASCAR Suspends Driver Kyle Larson For Using Racial Slur

Driver Kyle Larson has been suspended indefinitely without pay by NASCAR after using a racial slur during an iRacing event last night. NASCAR's move comes after Chip Ganassi Racing, Larson's Cup series team, suspended the driver earlier in the morning. NASCAR also ordered Larson to attend sensitivity training. NASCAR took the weekend off from its official Pro Invitational Series, but Larson was participating in an unofficial race that was being streamed on the sanctioning body’s digital channels. Larson was overheard on drivers’ personal Twitch streams using a racial epithet. A CGR statement in part said, “We are extremely disappointed by what Kyle said last night during an iRacing Event. The words that he chose to use are offensive and unacceptable.” Larson is sponsored in his real-life No. 42 Chevy by McDonald’s, Credit One Bank, Advent Health and Fiserv brand Clover; none of those companies have yet commented on the matter. NASCAR this morning said it was investigating the situation. The development comes just a week after Bubba Wallace was dropped by sponsor Blue Emu for quitting a Pro Invitational Series race early on after getting in a crash.
