Todd Gurley, Clay Matthews Reveal That Rams Owe Them Money

Gurley, who signed with the Falcons in recent weeks, is reportedly still owed at least $5M by the RamsGETTY IMAGES

Todd Gurley and Clay Matthews "caused a social media stir" by intimating that their former team, the Rams, "had not paid them money owed," according to Gary Klein of the L.A. TIMES. The Rams cut Gurley on March 19 before he was due $10.5M in bonuses, and he posted on Twitter, "@RamsNFL past due. Send me money ASAP." Matthews, also cut on March 19, retweeted Gurley's comment, adding, "You and me both TG! Better get some interest with that too." Gurley is owed $7.55M, but "offset language in his contract with the Rams reduces the Rams' liability if he signs elsewhere." Gurley, who has signed with the Falcons, "will be owed at least" $5M. Matthews is owed $2M, but "because of offset language in his Rams contract, if the 11-year veteran signs with another team, that figure will be reduced" (L.A. TIMES, 4/9). ESPN.com's Lindsey Thiry cited a source as saying that the Rams "believe they are in full compliance with the language in the players' contracts." This "isn't the first time Gurley has publicly commented on money owed to him by the Rams" (ESPN.com, 4/8).
