Red Sox Rely On Several Key Figures To Boost Organization's Image

Kennedy is increasingly the public face of the Sox, with Henry and Werner speaking only occasionallyGETTY IMAGES

Nobody in the Red Sox organization is "irreplaceable," but there is a list of people the club is "leaning on," according to Peter Abraham of the BOSTON GLOBE. Among those on the list is Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom, who was "hired to make the Sox a more consistent, sustainable, and smarter team." That "won't happen overnight, but they've put a lot of trust in his ability." When it comes to Red Sox Owner John Henry and Chair Tom Werner, some fans "consider them the Snidely Whiplash villains" who let RF Mookie Betts get away. President & CEO Sam Kennedy is "increasingly the public face of the Sox, with Henry and Werner now speaking to the media only on occasion." The Red Sox "too often come across as insincere," but Kennedy is the "one who can fix that." Fenway Sports Group President Michael Gordon, who is running EPL club Liverpool, "has plenty of influence behind the scenes." Abraham: "If you had to guess who owns the team in 15 years, it would be him" (BOSTON GLOBE, 4/5).
