Call Of Duty League Set To Return In New Entirely Online Format

The Call of Duty League is "set to return this weekend after an extended hiatus due to concerns regarding the spread of novel coronavirus," and it "will move to an entirely online format," according to Trent Murray of the ESPORTS OBSERVER. In the new system, eight of the league's 12 teams "will compete in a tournament spanning three days of competition, eventually crowning a champion for that event." Each tournament "will continue to award points to teams based on their performance, which accumulate throughout the overall season." Each online event "will be presented by a team" (ESPORTS OBSERVER, 4/6). ESPN.com's Emily Rand noted matches "will follow the original Call of Duty League schedule, beginning with the Dallas Empire homestand that was supposed to take place on March 28-29." The Call of Duty League setup is "similar to what Activision Blizzard has done for the Overwatch League over the past two weeks" (ESPN.com, 4/6).
