San Diego State Raising Men's Basketball Season-Ticket Prices

SDSU will not receive between $800,000-1M after the cancellation of the NCAA TournamentGETTY IMAGES

San Diego State is raising prices on men's basketball season tickets for the '20-21 season, as the "most expensive seating areas" in 12,414-seat Viejas Arena increased between 34-40%, while roughly one-third of the available seats now will "cost $100 or more per game based on 15 regular-season home games," according to Mark Zeigler of the SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE. Last week, SDSU "relaxed renewal deadlines for football and basketball season tickets," but what "won’t change, however, are the new prices." SDSU AD John David Wicker said, "We recognize that it’s a challenging situation and some people may choose not to renew because of that. But we also know that we have to fund our Division I athletic teams at a certain level and to do that we have to generate revenue in those sports that can generate revenue." Zeigler notes SDSU’s athletic department "will not receive" between $800,000-1M after the cancellation of the NCAA Tournament. Wicker said that the increased ticket revenue "could cover $400,000 of that." It is the "first major price hike" for SDSU men’s basketball since '15-16 (SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, 3/31).
