Rutgers AD: Construction Projects On Time For December Opening

Rutgers AD Pat Hobbs said that the Gary and Barbara Rodkin Academic Success Center is "still on schedule" for a December '20 opening, as New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy is allowing construction projects to continue amid the coronavirus pandemic, according to James Kratch of the Newark STAR-LEDGER. Hobbs said, "They've continued work on the Rodkin Center and we've started work on the field hockey and softball locker rooms in the RAC. Those projects are moving forward." On the master facilities plan and the fundraising push for a new football building, Hobbs said, "The master planning effort will continue. We've engaged AECOM and we certainly need their work product to come back to us. After you see the work product then you make a decision on when you would act on any of the facilities within that." He added, "There is no question that what's happened in the stock market and what's happened to folks' situations financially will have an impact on the timing of those decisions. But we still need the plan. Whether this is a 12-month or an 18-month scenario that we're going through, when you come out on the other side of that you will need to know what facilities our student-athletes and coaches need to be successful. That plan can sit there and you can act on it when appropriate" (Newark STAR-LEDGER, 3/28).
