Sinclair Establishes Emergency Fund For Freelance Workers

Sinclair Broadcast Group has set up an “emergency fund worth multiple millions of dollars” for its freelance employees, according to Tony Paul of the DETROIT NEWS. Nearly 1,000 freelance production workers are eligible for a $2,500 interest-free advance beginning April 3. The loans are available for any freelancers “who have worked ‘regularly’ on a regional sports network in a home market this year.” They can be paid back “in small increments” once the NBA, NHL and MLB seasons start up again (DETROIT NEWS, 3/27). Sinclair released all freelancers on March 12 and had come under some criticism for not establishing a form of financial assistance or relief (THE DAILY).
