Edgertronic Partners With Pocket Radar to Add Tracking Data to Slow Motion Video

A partnership between Edgertronic and Pocket Radar aims to integrate their technologies into an Automated Capture System. Users will now be able to remotely trigger Edgertronic cameras from Pocket Radar’s Measurement System Module. And velocity data from radar guns will be overlaid over pitches captured by Edgertronic’s slow motion cameras.

Pocket Radar’s pocket-sized radar guns are widely used across high school, college, and Major League Baseball. Every MLB club uses Edgertronic cameras, with notable users including Cincinnati Reds pitcher Trevor Bauer and New York Yankees pitcher Adam Ottavino. The high-speed cameras, which can capture movement at 1,000 frames per second, were originally designed for the aerospace and defense industries. Baseball has become Edgertronic’s biggest market by “accident,” Mike Matter, inventor of Edgertronic, told Joe Lemire last year.

“I could not stress enough the importance of providing streamlined technology in baseball,” said Steve Goody, CEO and co-founder of Pocket Radar, in a press release. “Our new Automated Capture System paired with the Edgertronic cameras will help these departments save massive amounts of time and resources when monitoring player mechanics in high resolution.”

Pocket Radar has also announced a Bring Your Training Home initiative amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The company is offering a $50 discount on its radar device and Smart Coach app bundle. Pocket Radar is also working with top training programs such as Driveline Baseball to release at-home training videos and educational webinars.
