DraftKings Pledges Up to $1 Million to United Way to Assist Coronavirus Relief

DraftKings has pledged to donate up to $1 million to United Way in response to the coronavirus pandemic. The fantasy sports and betting company has made an initial donation of $500,000.

The remaining funds will be raised through the #DKRally campaign on social media. DraftKings will donate $1 to United Way for everyone who shares a photo or video of themselves in a rally cap to Twitter, Facebook or Instagram using the hashtag #DKRally.

“The rally cap uniquely embodies the American spirit and our hope in the face of adversity, no matter the challenge ahead. It represents the come-back attitude we have at DraftKings as we work with our communities to face down COVID-19,” said Matt Kalish, president of DraftKings North America, in a press release.

“United Way fights for every person in every community and has long been at the forefront of disaster and crisis recovery efforts in communities around the world. Our response to the COVID-19 pandemic is no different,” added Larissa Rydin, VP of strategic partnerships at United Way Worldwide.

With sports leagues around the globe suspended due to the pandemic, DraftKings has been offering free-to-play pools focused on TV shows such as Jeopardy, Top Chef and Curb Your Enthusiasm. The company has also been offering fantasy sports contests on esports such as North America’s League of Legends Championship Series and China’s League of Legends Pro League, and on simulated NBA and NFL games.
