Univ. Of Nebraska Volleyball Turns Profit For Sixth Straight Year

Univ. of Nebraska volleyball was "one of the rare women's athletic programs to turn a profit" during FY '18-19, according to Lincoln Arneal of the OMAHA WORLD-HERALD. NU volleyball made $212,061 following the '18 season, which ended in a national championship loss to Stanford. That was the "sixth straight year NU volleyball has ended in the black, which also coincides with its move" to the 7,907-seat Devaney Center in '13 from the NU Coliseum, which had a capacity of just more than 4,000. The "backbone of Nebraska's strong finances" was the $2.2M generated from ticket sales in '18, which was a "program best." NU volleyball has "sold out each of its home matches" dating back to '01, and it "averaged a nation-best 8,205 fans per match" in '18. Making money off a program is an "anomaly in the volleyball world," as the only other major college program for which data was available that "made money from its volleyball program was Hawaii" (OMAHA WORLD-HERALD, 3/24).
