Washington Wizards and Capitals Games Will Be Simulated for Fans

Monumental Sports & Entertainment and NBC Sports Washington will broadcast video game simulations of Washington Wizards and Washington Capitals games that were scheduled to be played before COVID-19 suspended the NBA and the NHL seasons.

Games will be simulated through NBA 2K20 and NHL 20. All regular season games that were planned to be played will now take place digitally on the same date and time. Gameplay will be controlled by AI. All matchups will be televised on NBCSW and livestream on NBCSports.com and the NBC Sports app. Monumental Sports, which owns the Wizards and Capitals, will also livestream games via its online Monumental Sports Network and respective streaming app. The simulated video game presentations will last one hour.

STATE OF THE INDUSTRY: Join us March 26–27 for our free virtual conference

“We hope that these fun and engaging video game simulations will entertain our fans and help provide a greater sense of normalcy during these challenging times,” Zach Leonsis, SVP of Strategic Initiatives at MSE, said in a press release. “We hope that when people tune in and watch these simulated games, they will be able to enjoy some friendly competitive play from the comforts of their own home.”

The broadcast will feature the same video presentation and audio commentary that is standard to NBA 2K20 gameplay, while NBCSW’s Wizards analysts will contribute sparingly to the broadcast coverage.

During NHL 20 simulations, NBCSW’s regular Capitals announcers will lead game commentary.
