The NBA Launches Social Media Campaign “NBA Together” in Response to COVID-19

The NBA has launched a social media campaign called “NBA Together” to educate and engage with fans in response to the coronavirus pandemic. The campaign will include video content featuring team executives, players, coaches and doctors.

Every weekday at 3 p.m. ET, an NBA star will be interviewed by NBA broadcast talent or answer questions from fans on Instagram Live. Cleveland Cavaliers forward Kevin Love was the first to be interviewed last Friday. The league also announced that classic NBA games will stream every night on the league’s social media platforms, including Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Twitch (in addition to offering a free preview of NBA League Pass).

STATE OF THE INDUSTRY: Join us March 26–27 for our free virtual conference

The NBA’s website also launched a coronavirus Information page, which will feature health PSAs from current NBA and WNBA players as well as retired legends. The league has also launched an interactive content series called Jr. NBA at Home, which features league players and coaches leading basketball drills for youngsters to try on their own. The Jr. NBA at Home program will also integrate with the basketball training app HomeCourt.

ZOOM FOR HOOPS: HomeCourt Makes Its Product Free for Users

As part of the NBA Together campaign, the league has partnered with educational institutions Discovery Education, Scholastic Inc, and NBA Math Hoops to create short virtual learning lessons for youth to engage with while schools are closed due to COVID-19. The league will also provide mental wellness tips in partnership with health care company Kaiser Permanente and mental health app Headspace. Using the hashtag #NBATogether, the NBA is also asking players and fans to share photos and videos of themselves supporting their communities during the pandemic.
