Red Sox Won't Admit To Wrongdoing In Alleged Sign-Stealing Case

MLB in early January began its investigation into the Red Sox' alleged sign-stealing in '18GETTY IMAGES

An attorney representing the Red Sox in a lawsuit related to its '18 sign-stealing investigation said that the club "does not admit to wrongdoing," according to Peter Abraham of the BOSTON GLOBE. During oral arguments conducted via conference call last Friday, U.S. District Court Judge Jed Rakoff asked attorney Lauren Moskowitz if the Red Sox "violated MLB rules." Moskowitz responded, "We do not admit that." Rakoff then asked, "So you think the commissioner of baseball [Rob Manfred] was just off base in your view?" Moskowitz: "Your Honor, I think that there are distinctions between what the Red Sox believe occurred and what the commissioner found. And I think that certainly they're entitled to disagree that that activity happened at the club level." Abraham noted the exchange "suggested that MLB's investigation is finished" after it began in early January. Meanwhile, Rakoff during the call also was "hearing arguments regarding whether lawsuits filed by daily fantasy sports players should be dismissed," with the Red Sox, Astros and MLB as defendants. A decision on dismissing the case is "expected by April 15" (BOSTON GLOBE, 3/21). Abraham cited sources as saying that MLB has "not yet reached any conclusion in its investigation" (BOSTON GLOBE, 3/22).
