USA Gymnastics Spends Only $900 On Safe Sport Last Month

USA Gymnastics had more than $1.78M in expenditures last month, and of that amount, the NGB only "spent $900 on Safe Sport, the organization's program to educate and raise awareness about sexual and physical abuse within the sport and investigate predatory and abusive individuals," according to Scott Reid of the ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER. For more than three years, top USAG officials have "stressed the organization's commitment to Safe Sport and addressing sexual abuse and the culture within the sport that enabled predatory behavior of individuals like former U.S. Olympic and women's national team physician Larry Nassar." Less than 3% of all USAG expenses between January '19 and last month "were spent on Safe Sport." Meanwhile, USAG listed $38.51M in "total expenses" between January '19 and last month, and during that same period, the organization reported $1.13M in "Safe Sport expenditures." Nearly 30% of all USAG expenditures -- $11.47M -- during the 14th-month period "went to legal fees"  (ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER, 3/19).
