Sports Leagues Vie for Fans During COVID-19 Pandemic

Opening Day was originally supposed to be just a week from today, but there will now be no (live) MLB action until at least May. Instead, MLB created a list of 30 must-watch games from its history, with each available to watch for free on the MLB Vault YouTube channel.

Other leagues are also reaching out to offer their own free-access deals. With the basketball season on indefinite pause, fans can access a free preview of NBA League Pass through April 22. And the NFL, which is deep into its off-season, is giving complimentary U.S. access to NFL Game Pass until May 31.

NFL Game Pass includes access to every game from the 2009-2019 seasons, including preseason, regular season and postseason games. It also contains condensed 45-minute game replays, exclusive film sessions featuring NFL players and coaches, and tapes of NFL original programming such as Hard Knocks, Mic'd Up, & A Football Life.

NBA fans will be able to watch full length replays and condensed versions of all games already played this season, as well as archived footage of classic games and moments.

Fans can create free accounts on NFL.com and NBA.com to receive their complimentary access. A season-long NFL Game Pass subscription normally costs $99.99 while NBA League Pass costs $99.99 per year for access to games across all 30 teams and $59.99 for access to watch one team.
