Nike Commits More Than $15M To Coronavirus Relief Efforts

Nike is "committing more than" $15M to "COVID-19 response efforts," according to Ryan Thorburn of the Eugene REGISTER-GUARD. Nike co-Founder & Chair Emeritus Phil Knight and his wife, Penny, along with BOD Exec Chair Mark Parker and his wife, Kathy, and President & CEO John Donahoe and his wife, Eileen, are "personally donating" a combined $10M. The individual donations from the execs will be disbursed to the Oregon Food Bank ($1M), the Oregon Community Recovery Fund ($2M) and the Oregon Health & Science University ($7M) (Eugene REGISTER-GUARD, 3/19).

In Portland, Matthew Kish noted Nike also will "match employee contributions to coronavirus relief two-to-one." 

The Nike Foundation is doing the following:

  • $1M to the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund, formed by the United Nations Foundation and Swiss Philanthropy Foundation
  • $1M to the Oregon Community Recovery Fund, formed by the Oregon Community Foundation
  • $1.1M to support the company's partners in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The money will be given to the King Baudouin Foundation
  • $250,000 to the Mid-South Food Bank in Memphis, where Nike has a large presence and distribution center
  • $250,000 to the COVID-19 Regional Response Fund, formed by the Community Foundation of Greater Memphis
  • $500,000 to the COVID-19 Response Fund, formed by the Boston Foundation (BIZJOURNALS.com, 3/18).
