The Basketball Tournament Intends To Hold Summer Event

The Basketball Tournament "intends to hold its annual summer basketball event," which is scheduled to play late July first-round games at Onondaga Community College in Syracuse, according to Donna Ditota of the Syracuse POST-STANDARD. The hope is that coronavirus restrictions on movement and large gatherings "will have lifted" by the time event starts. Boeheim's Army GM Kevin Belbey, whose team has been competing in the tournament since its second year, said that TBT is "still planning, still going about its usual March business of organizing regional sites and enticing teams to sign up" for this year. TBT co-Founder & Exec VP/Strategic Partnerships Jen Todd said, "We are currently proceeding as planned. We're thinking we're small and nimble enough so we don't have to make a decision really soon." Belbey said as TBT dates stand now, the pool of players "should be wide open." Ditota noted the dates "do not conflict with players who must report to international basketball designations by late summer." Meanwhile, nothing official "seems to be set for the NBA's Summer League, though talks suggest it could take place some time in the late summer" (Syracuse POST-STANDARD, 3/19).
