AHL Team Using T-Shirt Campaign To Cover Workers' Lost Wages

The Comets have sold over 500 T-shirts at a price of $25 each since launching the campaign last weekUTICA COMETS

The AHL Utica Comets have launched a T-shirt campaign dubbed "Puck The Virus" to help part-time arena staffers and hourly employees during the league's pause in action amid the coronavirus. Comets VP/Marketing Cecelie Pikus came up with the idea for the T-shirt campaign, which launched Friday when the Comets were supposed to be hosting the Belleville Senators at the Adirondack Bank Center. Mohawk Valley Garden President Robert Esche, whose company operates the Comets, credited team broadcaster Joe Roberts with the "puck the virus" slogan. "The team did an excellent job with it," said Esche, who added that it has been a good team morale boost during these unprecedented times. "There’s been significant traction, and it’s been really well-received. And it goes to a great cause." As of this morning, more than 500 T-shirts have been sold at $25 each. They are available through the company’s website. Besides the Comets, which is an affiliate of the Canucks, Mohawk Valley Garden also manages and operates arena restaurants, concessions, a food and beverage arm, the Utica Jr. Comets and Utica City FC of the Major Arena Soccer League.
