Rahm Joins McIlroy, Koepka In Not Joining Premier Golf League

World No. 2 golfer Jon Rahm has joined No. 1 Rory McIlroy and No. 3 Brooks Koepka in "declaring himself out" on the proposed Premier Golf League splinter tour, a "rejection that almost certainly condemns the controversial scheme to failure," according to Eamon Lynch of GOLFWEEK. Rahm said, "What I’m going to do is focus on just the PGA Tour." Lynch noted Rahm "stiff-arming the concept means the top three players in the world -- all young, all with lengthy competitive careers ahead of them -- have sided with the PGA Tour." PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan in January said that anyone who committed to the PGL "would no longer be able to play the Tour" (GOLFWEEK.com, 3/15). Koepka said, "I am out of the PGL. I’m going with the PGA Tour. I have a hard time believing golf should be about just 48 players.” He added that he "made up his mind after meeting" with PGL organizers in L.A. a month ago during the Genesis Invitational. The AP's Doug Ferguson notes with golf "shutting down" over concerns about the new coronavirus, Koepka "wanted it made clear he wasn’t going anywhere" (AP, 3/16).
