Big Ten, SEC, AAC Cancel Conference Tournaments Amid Virus

The Big Ten, SEC, Big 12, ACC, Pac-12 and AAC have canceled their men's basketball tournaments due to the spread of the coronavirus (Mult., 3/12).  

SWOFFORD TALKS ACC: Meanwhile, earlier this morning, ACC Commissioner John Swofford had said the conference men's basketball tournament would go on as scheduled today in Greensboro, noting "hopefully, we’re making the right decisions as we go forward.” Swofford said he "very briefly" considered canceling the tournament, but "we all felt that we wanted our players to have the opportunity to play." Swofford: “Hopefully, it’ll work out well.” Swofford said there has been "no lack of input along the way" between the conference and health officials. Swofford: “Always, the primary issue with something like this is the safety of the fans and everybody else involved with the event.” Swofford said the decision to continue playing "was unified" by the Power Five conferences, but "going forward, we’ll just have to see. Crystal balling is really difficult right now.” As for spring sports, Swofford said there is a "little more time to think through that. ... That discussion is well down the road” (“Packer & Durham,” ACC Network, 3/12).
