League Notes

In S.F., Scott Ostler writes MLB "needs to follow through on ... the de-escalation of in-game technology" following the Astros sign-stealing scandal. He lists some things that MLB "should lose right now," including tablets in dugouts and bullpens, video-review rooms and "video study during games" (S.F. CHRONICLE, 2/28).

BIGGER AND BETTER: The NHL announced the NHL Gaming World Championship will return in '20 for its third season. The competition will include a "larger total prize pool" that is up more than $50,000 from '19 and an "expanded World Final that will see three finalists from each region advance to play" for the title (ESPORTS OBSERVER, 2/27).

STAY WITH WHAT YOU KNOW: GOLF DIGEST's John Huggan wrote R&A CEO Martin Slumbers this week claimed to be "watching from afar" as more comes out on the proposed Premier Golf League. However, Slumbers' "emphasis of the 'strong relationship' the R&A enjoys with both the PGA Tour and European Tour was perhaps a hint that his historically conservative organization [is] happy enough with the status quo" (GOLF DIGEST, 2/25).
